Grenada is celebrating its 36th year of independence. It was on February 7, 1974 Premier Eric Gairy led Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique under a state of unrest, strikes and blackout into independence. For many years, the celebration of independence was not supported by all but 36 years later, and a new generation of nationals, the independence anniversary is proudly celebrated by nationals at home and abroad.

As a result of the major snow storm in Washington, D.C. celebrations planned for the 6th and 7th including a national church service were cancelled but the annual dinner in New York was held as scheduled.
