The Anglophone Caribbean is still in awe over its hosting of the 2007 ICC World Cup. Planning and hosting the cricket World Cup was thrilling and anxiously awaited especially by the young people in the region.

For the older and mature generation, staging the ICC World Cup in the Caribbean was a dream that became real and a time for reflection. For them, West Indies cricket in spite of colonialism and racism brought hope, pride, prestige and inspiration to the region and fostered the dawn of independence and integration.

During the World Cup, endless conversations and commentaries focused on the powerful West Indies Test teams of the 1970s and 1980s and the players of those eras. Tributes were also given to the late captain Frank Worrell who is credited for molding the modern West Indies Test teams; Sir Frank is regarded as the first black captain of the team.
